Recently I took a little road trip to Birmingham to visit one of my good friends Louisa for a few days.
Louisa moved to Brum to start a new job and I haven't really seen her since she moved so what better way to catch up then spending some quality time in her new home.
We decided whilst I was there that we would pay a cheeky visit to the local cinema to see 50 Shades of Grey.
There has been a lot of hype surrounding the books and the much anticipated film that we just had to go and check it out for ourselves.
Out of the two of us, I'm the one that hasn't read all 3 of the books, I read the first but wasn't that blown away by it and as a result books 2 and 3 have been left to catch dust on the shelf.
As this was the first of the 3 books to be made into a film I was interested to see what the filmmakers were going to do with it. After all, the books sold millions of copies around worldwide - the film therefore had a lot to live up to.
Another reason I wanted to watch the film was that the leading man Jamie Dornan (aka Christian Grey) is from my hometown Holywood in Northern Ireland so any reason to cheer on a hometown boy - I'm there!
Whilst Jamie wasn't quite how my mind pictured Christian Grey looking, he was more like Christian was to look like than the original casting of Charlie Hunnam. I just cant get my head around this casting.
I don't know about you but my Christian is more like one of these delightful specimens...
But I am more than happy to perv on Jamie so life is good!

So I have my obligatory cinema slush purchase in one hand and ticket in the other and I'm ready. Let's see what the fuss is about....
...125 minutes later
So what did you think I hear you cry!
''It was about as erotic as an advert for a Pottery Barn'' - Peter Travers.
I'd agree 100%, it was all too tame for me, nowhere enough sex! There were more scenes of Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) biting her bloody lip and chewing her pencil than there were sex scenes.
The film for me well and truly put the emphasis on the colour Grey. It did leave me some what disappointed.
On the plus side Dakota Johnson it has to be said played the part of Anastasia very well so every cloud.
One good thing to come out of watching the film is that I fell in love with a super doper new tune by Ellie Goulding -'Love Me Like You Do' and as a result Ellie got another download of said song.
| 5 stars for Ellie!!! As for the film, I'd give it a 3/5 - it was ok, nothing special. |
Will I watch the sequel?
Possibly, although if I do I wont be one of the first to see it - I'll wait for the DVD!
If reports are to be believed Jamie Dornan has quit the role as Christian so will there be a second film, we'll have to wait and find out!
Until next time...
